Canadian pianist Marilyn Lerner is one of the most versatile artists of the international Yiddish music scene. Coming from a jazz background, she early on began creating entirely original, groundbreaking music based on traditional forms. Her love of detail when dealing with traditional sources combines with a completely free and improvisational approach to interpretation, creating a unique musical adventure.
In her improvisations, echoes of klezmer, traditional Jewish and liturgical melodies combine beneath the fingers of a pianist equally at home in classical music, experimental music and jazz to create music that is exciting and virtuosic, yet also deeply personal.
